Seiyoukai is the potters’ association in the Sennyuji district, where many Kyoto Ware and Kiyomizu Ware workshops are located. Beautiful works of ceramic artists are exhibited and sold here, where the ceramic experience courses are offered.
Please have fun taking up the challenge to these interesting techniques.

1.Potter’s Workshop Tour and Underglaze Decoration (two or more)

Duration: 60 to 120 min.

Visit a Kiyomizu ware workshop and see how potteries are made and what tools are used.
Hand-form a small item, like a chopstick rest or a small plate, using an electric potter’s wheel and stamping tools. Items differ depending on the workshop.
After the workshop tour, experience underglaze decoration in the Seiyoukai building.

Fee per person:

2. Potter’s Workshop Tour and Hand-Forming (2 or more)

Duration: 60 to 120 min.

Visit a Kiyomizu ware workshop and see how potteries are made with what tools.
Hand-form a small item, like a chopstick rest or a small plate, using an electric potter’s wheel and stamping tools. Item differs depending on the pottery.
After the workshop tour, hand-form your own Japanese teacup in the Seiyoukai building.

3.Underglaze Decoration (1 to 70 people)

Duration: 60 min.

Draw a design on a cup, a bowl or a plate using zaffer, a blue ink to glaze ceramics. An instructor will show you how to do it and give you tips and suggestions, if needed. The china you decorated will be baked and shipped to an address within Japan.

4. Hand-forming (2 or more)

Duration: 60 to 90 min.

Form your own piece with 500 gram of clay using a potter’s wheel.
Your piece will be carved, glazed and baked by a professional and shipped to an address in Japan in about a month.
